Sloths are slow moving land mammals that live in Central and South America. They are known for their easy going and laid-back approach to life. They move through canopies at a rate of about 40 yards a day. Sloths use their hooked fingers and toes to dangle upside down under trees. Sloths have a very low metabolic rate and sleep for 8-10 hours a day. It takes 30 days for a sloth to digest a single leaf. Many people believe that sloths are a type of monkey, but they are actually related to anteaters and armadillos.
Types of Sloths
There are 6 different types of sloths categorized into to types; two-toed and three-toed. There has been some controversy about these titles since sloths are technically classified by their "fingers".
